1 of 50
Vehicle Description In May 1972, President Nixon took a black Eldorado coupe with him to Moscow to present as a gift to Soviet leader Leonid Breshnev.
With only three days warning, Cadillac took the car off the line, striped it in red, and trucked it to Selfridge Air Force Base near Detroit to be flown to Russia.
It was shipped with a selection of cassette tapes, spare parts, and service manuals.
Cadillac hits its stride this year on its 70th anniversary, with 267,787 cars sold - the first time it topped a quarter million.
The 1972 Eldorado proved a big success with 40,074 finding buyers (32,099 coupes and 7,975 convertibles).
Base price for the coupe was $7380 and the convertible cost $7681, though it was easy to option either model past $11,000.
This example was sold new at Tom O'Malley's Cadillac dealership in Wausau, WI and has remained in the same family since new, from Grandfather to Grandson, who credits this car for igniting his classic car passion and decades long hobby.
Now as he begins to downsize his collection, this well-maintained and wonderful driving '72 Eldo Coupe is available for the first time in nearly 50 years! Recent engine and transmission seal servicing ($1200) was done, and outside of a couple tires and an AC charge, this girl has no known mechanical needs.
On the inside, most everything functions with the exception of the power seat and the clock, and the interior is in really nice condition overall.
The exterior appears to have had some touchup work over the years, as needed, and remains quite presentable for a nice driving cruiser.
Reasonable offers encouraged, financing/shipping available, and we gladly sell worldwide!.
